DISPATCHER - TRANSPORTATION
There is a position available for a Dispatcher in the Transportation Department with School District No. 60. All applications must be completed online and will be accepted until noon, July 24, 2025.
Position Description:
Reporting to the Transportation Supervisor, this position is responsible for coordinating and dispatching buses and drivers for regular and extra curricular trips, and assisting with the day to day operation of the Transportation Department.
Hours of work: Eight (8) hrs/day, five (5) days per week
Duties to Commence: September 1, 2025
Work Year Base: Ten(10) months per year
Commencing Salary: $31.24/hr
Duties:

Coordinates and dispatches buses and drivers for regular and extra –curricular trips.

Calls out casual drivers whenever necessary.
-
Acts as a spare bus driver whenever necessary
-
Prepares road maps of all bus runs and assists in the preparation of permanent student lists and school bus passes.
-
Keeps track of and reports casual time, absences and overtime of employees within the Transportation Department.
-
Invoices schools and third parties for field trips.
-
Consults with highway maintenance contractors in regards to road conditions when necessary.
-
Assists the Transportation Supervisor in the day-to-day operations of the Transportation Department.
-
May be asked to oversee the operations of the Transportation Department in the absence of the Transportation Supervisor.

Respond to and troubleshoot transportation related issues both during and outside work hours when applicable.

Follows proper safety rules and standards by ensuring the worksite is safe and secure, that equipment and vehicles are operated according to set standards.

Ensures the safe handling of hazardous materials (WHMIS) and the safe use and operation of vehicles, equipment and hand tools.

Performs other job related duties as directed by the Transportation Supervisor.
Qualifications and Attributes:
- Grade 12 or equivalency
- 2 years experience driving a School Bus preferred
- Minimum Class 2 driver’s license with air endorsement
- Clean Drivers Abstract
- Knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Code and the National Safety Code
- Basic computer experience
- Knowledge of local road system
- Must be well organized
- Accurate data entry skills
- Proficient Computer Skills including knowledge of Excel
- Ability to work independently and set priorities
- WHMIS Certificate and other online safety training provided by the District to be completed within the probationary period
- Other applicable safety training and/or certifications as provided by the District to be completed as needed
- Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to starting employment
- Ability to manage difficult conversations in a professional manner.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a team
