Reporting to NIEPI’s Executive Director, this position is the first point of contact for NIEPI, as such, works closely with Indigenous business leaders and stakeholders to ensure an ongoing productive relationship and maintain regular correspondence with these external stakeholders to provide updates and promote events. The Communications/Outreach Manager will also oversee a number of staff within NIEPI in the area of communications, outreach, and engagement.

Duties:
- Support NIEPI leadership in delivering key messages to external and internal audiences.
- Engage with key stakeholders, including investors, clients, and partners, through communication initiatives.
- Developing, writing and updating website content.
- External Communications including the NIEPI’s online and virtual presence, ranging from website development, publications, planning online or in-person events, arranging interviews, overseeing photography, gathering data, providing final edits, and overseeing distribution.
- Identifying and filling gaps in promotional and reputational tools; and providing strategic advice to the Executive Director on matters related to communications and promotion.
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and journalists; write and distribute press releases and manage media inquiries.
- Ensuring all communication reflects NIEPI’s vision, mission, and values.
- Lead on Marketing and Advertising: acquiring and distributing various promotional materials as needed; designing and developing advertising for various types of media, preparation of material for various social media outlets such as Twitter and Facebook and working with External Relations on the placement of advertising.
- Manage and guide a team of professionals and students working in communications, outreach, and engagement for NIEPI.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Communications, Computer Science, or another related field with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required
- Possess and demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to draft, edit and proof a diverse genre of written communication formats for varying audiences and needs
- Ability to identify and execute ways to publicize the successes of NIEPI’s team and develop its virtual and online presence through the creation and maintenance of a dynamic webpage.
- Ability to develop speaking notes for NIEPI’s leadership as needed
- Ability to plan and deliver media events, including preparation of media releases
- Ability to develop and maintain contact lists
- Extensive proficiency in MS Office programs
- Knowledge of university policies, procedures and software
- Ability to gather, translate, and analyze data from multiple sources and aggregate it in reports as requested
- Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to create content tailored to various target audiences
- Ability to solve complex problems individually and as part of a team
- Proven ability to successfully adapt to change
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, project based work environment and handle multiple, concurrent and competing priorities;
- Ability to work proactively and effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as part of a team environment
- Experience with software such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Premiere are an asset.
Salary Range: APT Grade 6 ($71,999 - $96,986)
