Make a difference
We are currently searching for a dedicated and passionate individual to join our family at Toronto Community Housing. As a Field Supervisor, you will coordinate and supervise a large team of special constables and other security staff in providing community patrol and response coverage to TCH communities, incorporating site and mobile control, special constables, security dispatch service and parking services in conjunction with outside agencies such as the police, fire and ambulance services.
What you’ll do
- Provide supervision and assign work to unionized staff
- Lead team to meet key performance indicators, service standards, unit wide outcomes, business processes and reporting requirements and take corrective action when needed
- Ensure team is compliant with documentation standards and confidentiality is maintained in accordance with applicable legislation, corporate policies and procedures, collective agreement
- Coach and train staff ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others
- Prepare information for performance reviews
- Authorize and control vacation and overtime
- Supervise staff in all aspects of their duties including preparation of reports and correspondence.
- Lead, manage and motivate staff team to ensure effective teamwork, monitor work output, take a proactive approach to problem solving, resolve labour relations issues, ensures high standards of work quality and organizational performance
- Manage team resources ensuring effective and efficient use of resources
- Enter payroll, manage staff schedules
- Respond to/assist with collective agreement grievances, as required
- Identify risks and mitigation strategies
- Maintain memo book and records information in records management system in accordance with CSU procedures
- Prepare court documents
- Review and approve court/evidence related documents/reports of staff
- Prepare shift schedules
- Liaise with Operating Managers on tenancy issues arising from resident conduct
- Attend Landlord & Tenant Board hearings and court to present evidence
- Establish effective working relationships and partnerships with residents, other TCH staff, Toronto Police Service, Toronto Fire, EMS, community/social services, and others
- Attend Toronto Police Service divisional and City of Toronto meetings (e.g., crime management, Community Police Liaison Committees)
- Attend integrated TCH team meetings and provide input to assist in addressing and resolving tenancy management issues
- Attend resident/community meetings to address issues relating to community safety
- Provide on-site support during crisis and emergency situations
- Coordinate and deploy staff
- Assist emergency services such as Fire, Police and EMS
- Liaise with Client Care Centre to ensure appropriate business unit response and notification
- Respond to calls for service
- Interact with contracted security guards
- Issue Provincial Offence Notices
- Enforce statutes, including making arrests, in accordance with the Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Liquor License Act, Mental Health Act, Trespass to Property Act, and Provincial Offences Act
- Enforce municipal parking-related bylaws
What you’ll need
- A college diploma in police foundations, law, criminal justice or related program or equivalent work experience
- Five (5) years of experience in a law enforcement agency or equivalent, with 2 years demonstrated supervisory experience,
- Possess and maintain full security and police clearance including fingerprinting and background check
- Thorough knowledge of safety and security policies, practices, and techniques including on-site, mobile, bike patrol and dispatch systems
- Ability to effectively supervise, and mentor staff
- Knowledge of crisis intervention and investigative techniques to handle emergency situations
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, statutes, by-laws and practices including the Criminal Code, Residential Tenancies Act, Fire Safety Act, various municipal, parking and enforcement by-laws, building and safety standards
- Ability to apply TCH policies to ensure compliance and consistency in the delivery and assessment of safety security activities
- An understanding of TCH’s diverse communities
- Ability to apply applicable Collective Agreements, Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Policies
- Well-developed analytical and conceptual skills to evaluate deployment needs and assess responses required in emergency and crisis situations
- Well-developed organizational and decision-making skills
- Ability to liaise effectively with Police Departments, Fire Departments, other governmental agencies and staff
- Strong written communication skills to prepare management reports and briefing materials
- Must be able to work varying/rotating shifts (including days, afternoon, evenings, weekends, holidays) and flexibility to be re-assigned as necessary
- Must pass mandatory re-qualification training, tests and background investigation/checks, as required;
- Requires a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario class “G” driver’s license
