As our team and project portfolio continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join our management team. This role is ideal for a highly organized and proactive individual who is comfortable working independently, communicates clearly, and thrives in a fast-paced construction environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for inputting and overseeing the full cycle of accounting activities, providing financial insights to senior management, and supporting the business through accurate, timely, and strategic financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Perform full-cycle accounting and maintain up-to-date financial records using QuickBooks Online
- Complete monthly bank and account reconciliations, including accounts payable and receivable
- Administer bi-weekly payroll, government remittances, ROEs, T4s, and employee benefits
- Collaborate with project managers to provide monthly cost analysis reports for ongoing construction projects
- Monitor cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting and report key findings to ownership
- Prepare all necessary filings for federal and provincial taxes, including GST, PST, and payroll remittances
- Train and support office and accounting staff on internal systems and financial procedures
- Create and manage Excel spreadsheets and reports to support internal decision-making
- Coordinate and assist with year-end financial preparation for external accountants
- Communicate professionally with vendors, subcontractors, clients, and staff regarding accounting-related matters
- Manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision
Tasks
- General Ledger Maintenance: Record all financial transactions in the company’s general ledger, ensuring they are accurate and up-to-date.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process vendor invoices and employee expenses, as well as manage customer payments and collections.
- Bank Reconciliation: Reconcile bank statements with the company’s records to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- Payroll Support: Assist with processing payroll, including verifying hours worked, deductions, and employee benefits.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management review.
- Expense Tracking: Monitor company expenses, ensuring they are within budget and properly categorized.
- Data Entry: Accurately enter financial data into accounting software, maintaining consistency and correctness. Oversee junior bookkeeping staff for acurate input of information.
- Financial Analysis: Assist in preparing financial reports, providing data to senior management for decision-making.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum 3–5 years of full-cycle accounting experience, preferably in a construction or project-based industry
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Excel, and other common accounting tools
- Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and tax requirements
- Proven ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with strong time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- CPA designation (or working toward one) is considered an asset
