About the role

The Summer Work Experience Program Maintenance Trainee will work under the direction of the Chief Atahm School Principal or designate to maintenance support, both inside and outside the school grounds. This position is for full-time students 15 to 30 years old.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Daily janitorial duties for the Chief Atahm School buildings, including recycling
  • Daily building maintenance, repair or replace as necessary
  • School ground maintenance, including weed control and Fire Smart strategies
  • Assist with furniture moving in preparation for painting and floor waxing
  • Assist with Chief Atahm Summer Institutes program, set up, garbage and recycling
  • Other related duties

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • This position is for First Nations secondary and post-secondary students ages 15 to 30 years old
  • Ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Were registered as full time students during the preceding academic year and who intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
  • WHMIS an asset

Some lifting, moderate periods standing, sitting. Some bending, kneeling, and lifting (up to 20lbs).

WORKING CONDITIONS

Includes working outside in different weather conditions Working with various equipment.

Criminal records check with vulnerable sector with results acceptable to ALIB

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Part-Time Fixed Term Position starting July 2, 2025 and ending August 22, 2025

Wage offered will be $19.50 per hour with 4% vacation paid out on each cheque.

Hours per week: up to 60 hours biweekly (max 30 hrs./week) with flexibility in hours/days of work.

Competition closes June 29, 2024 at midnight, Pacific Time.
