About the role

Your Opportunity:

The University of Alberta Hospital is looking for an experienced Facilities Technician to join our Commissioning team within the Facilities Maintenace & Engineering Department. This position will be required to work closely with various project & facility groups to ensure we continuously work towards successful project completion.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Attending multiple project walkthroughs and meetings on a regular basis.
  • Providing continuous feedback and project review during all phases of the project life cycle.
  • Keeping a log of all active projects and communicating project concerns with relevant stakeholders.
  • Providing relevant stakeholders with facility-based information that will aid the project success.
  • Have a proven understanding of Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural components in a facility setting.
  • Actively contribute to conversations with various trade disciplines and provide problem solving ideas.
  • Regularly review O&M's and project close-out documentation.
  • Provide quality control for projects and work to ensure that the projects are complying with AHS Infection Control Prevention requirements.
  • Regularly meet with management and report concerns relating to projects in a timely fashion.

Description:

This is a Journeyperson level position responsible for performing all duties of the appropriate Hospital Facilities. The person in this role will be involved with preventive maintenance, inspection, and repair of the interior and exterior of buildings and complexes. The successful candidate will be involved in managing small FME lead projects, providing technical support and troubleshooting problems, while ensuring adherence to health and safety standards are key responsibilities of this position. The incumbent will also work with the commissioning team reviewing project drawings, doing inspections and commissioning. The Facilities Technician works independently within established guidelines and procedures, and has the authority to take initiative within assigned tasks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Certificate in a related field.

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Journeyperson Certificate in a recognized Trade.
  • Proven experience in facility project commissioning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Facility Commissioning Certification.
