DEPARTMENT: Skwachàys Lodge (Reporting to the Lodge Supervisor)

OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Lodge Supervisor, the Housekeeper is responsible for providing clean, comfortable guest rooms in a manner which will promote guest loyalty. You bring a pleasant and professional disposition with guests and Lodge staff, are flexible, communicative, and respectful. It will be an asset to have knowledge of indigenous culture and art.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Consistently offer professional, prompt, courteous and engaging services, and responses to

guest and staff inquiries, requests, and complaints.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and proper usage of cleaning supplies, chemicals, products, and

equipment and take personal responsibility for equipment, ensuring correct operation and safety.

  • Maintain all cleaning protocols in place, as set by WorkSafe BC and Health Canada.

  • Clean rooms according to Skwachays Lodge standards, including changing bed linens and bed

making, cleaning rooms, floors, furniture, and surfaces and restocking all amenities.

  • Update and confirm records of cleaned rooms.

  • Ensure all lost property items left in guest rooms are tagged, recorded on the worksheet, and

handed in to the Supervisor/Manager at the end of the shift.

  • Ensure all maintenance issues and safety hazards are promptly reported to the

Supervisor/Manager to minimize hazard risk.

  • Clean hallways and common areas in the Lodge and Gallery.

  • Report any unusual or suspicious persons/activities happening in security to the manager.

  • Ensure security of guest rooms and privacy of guests.

  • Perform Laundry tasks when necessary, including supply room stocking from inventory and daily

sorting, transporting and inhouse laundry completion.

  • Follow all Skawchàys policies, procedures, and service standards.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training & Experience

  • No specific education or related experience required

  • Demonstrated ability to follow instruction.

  • Demonstrated applicable skills in guest relations, time management, handling multiple priorities under pressure.

  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

  • Professional appearance and manners required; uniform is provided.

  • The confidentiality, respect, security, and privacy of lodge guests maintained.

  • Good communication skills are an asset.

  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and B Safe Certificate (go2HR) knowledge are assets.

The BC Indigenous Housing Society (BCIHS) is dedicated to providing safe, attainable housing for Indigenous individuals and families living in Vancouver and throughout British Columbia.

We are a registered charity and non-profit society. The BCIHS is governed by an all-Indigenous Board of Directors and employs approximately 100 people. Founded in 1984, we currently manage a portfolio of 21 buildings and over 900 units, supporting over 1,300 Indigenous individuals and families. BCIHS works in partnership with federal and provincial government agencies to subsidize tenant rent contributions and achieve affordability for individuals and families.
