Journeyman Mechanic
The Journeyman Mechanic works to guide and mentor apprentices. This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues and repair to ensure equipment is performing optimally.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Effectively manage, schedule and prioritize maintenance work orders and apprentices.
- Rebuild and make repairs to diesel/gasoline, and electric powered equipment.
- Plan, inspect, service, maintain, diagnose, troubleshoot, dismantle, and replace unit assemblies or parts.
- Communicate with supervisors and other divisions on methods, procedures, standards, and hazards.
- Exercise judgment in the selection of materials and tools as well as methods so that the job is performed in accordance with accepted manufacturers specifications and safety standards.
- Trouble-shoot, plan, and perform work requiring a strong knowledge of mechanical, low voltage direct current, electronic and pneumatic principles, trade techniques, properties of various materials, and operating and application principles of equipment.
- Follow specifications on complex equipment diagrams, parts drawings and catalogues.
- Examine and reason, through cause analysis, for failure or improper operation of engines, pumps, running gear, parts, and equipment.
- Repair and rebuild engines, hydraulic and electric systems of diesel/gasoline, electric, propane equipment.
- Repair and rebuild transmissions, and differentials.
- Use precision testing equipment to determine source and cause of fault and to perform close tolerance adjustment.
- Test and operate repaired equipment as required.
- Make field repairs as required to bring equipment back on-line.
- Keep tools and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
- Complete required paperwork.
- Successfully complete safety training as required on an ongoing basis.
- Observe all safety procedures and use proper Personal Protective Equipment.
Qualifications
- Journeyman Heavy Duty Technician On Road certificate with minimum one-year experience.
- CVIP Licence
- Able to demonstrate good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Easily read, evaluate, and respond to product specifications and drawings, and perform normal math calculations.
- Familiar and comfortable with various saws, grinders and other hand tools.
- Able to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
- Ability to handle changing schedules and priorities, with high level prioritization skills.
- Strong work ethic and organizational planning skills with attention to detail.
