About the role: Our Experience Design team combines a number of disciplines into a centre of excellence supporting the entire Capital One Canada business. We are looking for a Head of Experience Design to lead this team, further develop our design culture, and partner closely with peers throughout the business to drive Capital One Canada’s growth. We are excited about our future, and we need your help to get there!

As you grow and lead this team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with the larger Design community across Capital One in the US and UK - including associates who have joined from Apple, Google, the Stanford Design School faculty, and Adaptive Path. On this team already, we have a seasoned and talented Senior Creative Manager leading the Creative team who will report into the Head of Experience Design. That team acts as our internal creative agency, and we also work with an external creative agency on our mass advertising campaigns.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead a talented, cross-functional team of practitioners who cover the spectrum of strategy, research, product and service design, operations, and more
  • Define and drive the overall design strategy aligned with the company’s goals
  • Elevate the quality and maturity of the design practice through systems, methodologies, and tools within the team and across Capital One Canada
  • Create conditions for a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment
  • Effectively partner with leaders in product, technology, marketing, operations, and more to deliver products, experiences, and services that delight Canadian prospects and customers
  • Own and facilitate prioritization decisions leveraging a transparent framework that aligns with organization goals and internal customer needs
  • Grow your knowledge of how credit works for the sake of helping us disrupt the industry from the inside out

Basic Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience, including 5 years of team/people leadership
  • A leader with experience in a design toolkit that spans product design, service design, content design, and research

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong design intuition and a proven track record in defining design methodologies and strategies and bringing them to fruition
  • Exceptional people leadership skills with a track record of leading high performing teams
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and relationship building across organizations, bringing together partners in ways that drive accelerated progress towards organizational and transformational outcomes, while elevating the value of design
  • Proficiency in business case development, grounding product and user experience decisions to business value
