Job Description
We are a family living in Whitby, looking for a high-energy, personable, positive, patient, and kind support assistant to engage our 13-year-old son in meaningful ways for 3 hours every Monday and Wednesday between 4:00pm-8:00pm. Our son is active, curious, and enthusiastic about life. He is a very helpful young man, a problem solver who enjoys the outdoors, sports and is excited to see and learn new things. We’re looking for a kind hearted candidate to support him in exploring interests, getting out in our community, and building relationships.
Areas of Responsibility:
· Encourage independence in following daily routines
· Organize and plan your dedicated time with our son in ways that are congruent with his interests
· Encourage engagement in activities and be willing to initiate new activities to spark new interests
· Contribute toward maintaining a positive environment that encourages progress by working effectively along side our family
· Safely accompany our son on walks to the local park, stores and other destinations
· Be a bridge in connecting and developing relationships with other kids his age in our community
· Comfortable with setting boundaries and structure
Key Requirements:
· Previous experience working with children
· Must be physically active; enjoy puzzles, running, walking, swimming, sports, being outdoors and engaging in community
· Demonstrate a willingness to learn
· Completion of Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSC)
· Ability to commute to Whitby
· Valid G driver’s license and access to a vehicle would be an asset
Required Availability: 3-hours between 4:00 and 8:00 pm on Monday and Wednesday (Total 6 hours a week)
Rate of Pay: $21/hr
This is not an employment position of Durham Family Resources. This is a self-employed independent Support Worker role working directly with the family. Scheduling, guidance, and orientation are done in partnership between the family and the independent contractor. Commitment to a consistent weekly schedule is required. You will work within an ethical practice framework while embracing the principles of inclusion and strive to create an environment that encourages good community connections!

Pay: $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 6 per week
Schedule:
- Evening shift
- No weekends
