About the role

TRU Trades and Technology Women in Trades Training Office Coordinator develops and implements activities, programs and events which provide support, networking opportunities, and capacity building for female apprentices and alumni. This position will also provide administrative and secretarial support to the department and chairperson by screening visitors and students and providing information and responding to general inquiries; screening incoming communication, determining priorities in order to meet the needs and requirements of assigned area; and handling sensitive material.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and implement the TRU RBC Women in Trades Training Program.

  • Develop and implement training and support to student groups.

  • Actively participates in all TRU Women in Trades Training events.

  • Mentor and counsel students on employment skills and academic opportunities.

  • Provides advice and support to the School of Trades and Technology for attraction, recruitment and retention activities.

  • Coordinates trades related activities and workshops.

  • Deliver employment workshops to student groups.

  • Creates and maintains divisional/department social media and web platforms required to engage relevant stakeholders including students, alumni, employers, TRU faculty and staff.

  • Plans, coordinates, and liaises with stakeholders on a variety of events, projects, and social media/advertising campaigns within the strategic goals set out by the division/department.

  • Assists in the design, development, and delivery of such events/campaigns via the use of web based tools and print materials.

  • Actively promote activities through verbal presentations, written and electronic means and by liaising with TRU and its external communities.

  • Monitor budget and expenses.

  • Submit reports on activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Two year post-secondary diploma in Business Administration or Event Management (or equivalent)

EXPERIENCE

  • Three years related events experience, including: experience with event management, workshop facilitation, writing communication and promotional materials, web page development and design, updating information for the web and for social media

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

  • Ability to plan, coordinate and present workshops and verbal presentations
  • Demonstrated experience in marketing and internal/external communications, and social media
  • Ability to work independently and with a committee
  • Demonstrated awareness and acceptance of diverse cultures and community
  • Advanced organizational skills
  • Proven computer skills including intermediate word processing and familiarity with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Social Media and web content management systems
  • Advanced interpersonal skills
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Familiar with trades sector industry groups
  • Detail and deadline oriented, with ability to work both independently and as a team player
  • Ability to coordinate, plan and organize multiple projects

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working in close proximity with students and staff in the office and in public settings
  • Ability to lift weights up to 5 kg
  • Sitting at a desk for long periods of time
