About the role

Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.

Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.

Position Overview:

The successful applicant will work with interdisciplinary research team to organize, plan, conduct educational research on developing learning and wellness strategies for caregivers and children. The work will be divided into preparing materials and supporting the implementation of strategies in communities around Manitoba.

Duties:

  • Coordinate TOYBOX project with input from the executive director, senior research project advisor, professoriate mentors and steering committee.
  • Prepare curricular materials for the TOYBOX (require Manitoba education curriculum knowledge and/or child development expertise).
  • Design and edit strategies for email, social media and website dissemination, and contribute to TOYBOX advocacy.
  • Organize tasks and plan/participate in events for community dissemination.
  • Learn, practice, implement assessments and test children.
  • Complete computer tasks using Word, Excel, Teams, Zoom-with internet access and cameras on.
  • Facilitate meetings and programs with excellent communication skills, and work well with a broad range of university affiliates and community members.
  • Complete tasks independently under fixed and extreme deadlines.
  • Accommodate flexible working hours on weekends, evenings and in locations across Manitoba.
  • Implement knowledge of psychology research design, educational pedagogy, and graphics design as applicable.
  • Write reports and create other materials (e.g., graphics related) as applicable.
  • Other tasks of a similar nature as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in progress in Developmental Studies, Education, Psychology or related field, and required experience completed with the TOYBOX project.
  • Proficient communication in the English language (spoken/written) is required.
  • Experience working with parents and children is an asset.

Condition(s) of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The period of work will be from July 29, 2025 - August 31, 2026, and the estimated total hours of work will be 0-200 hours.
