Are you a seasoned finance professional looking for a flexible, impactful opportunity? Our client, Wightman is hiring a Fractional Controller to support financial operations during a 15-month contract engagement. This part-time (20-30 hours per week), remote role (with occasional in-office requirements for training, meetings and audits) offers the chance to contribute to a well-established organization. This role is an individual contributor role focused on operational excellence.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Fractional Controller will oversee and execute core financial functions, ensuring accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls. You’ll play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, and financial analysis, helping to maintain operational continuity and financial integrity throughout the contract period.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Perform journal entries, account reconciliations, and statutory reporting
- Maintain and enhance internal controls to ensure compliance with policies and regulations
- Support the development of annual operating and capital budgets
- Conduct financial analysis to identify cost savings and revenue opportunities
- Provide guidance on accounting practices, financial systems, and reporting standards
- Coordinate year-end audit processes and preparation of audited financial statements
- Deliver ad hoc financial reports and insights as needed
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate financial operations
Requirements
**What You Bring**
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) (preferred)
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (or equivalent experience)
- Extensive experience in accounting and financial management
- Strong background in financial reporting, budgeting, and audit preparation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems (ERP experience is an asset)
- Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and regulatory compliance
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Previous experience in telecom or regulated industries is an asset
Additional Details
- Fixed term 15-month fractional contract with 20–30 hours per week
- Remote role with flexible scheduling. Occasional travel to the office required for meetings, training, or audits.
