Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority
(Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reports to Manager, Chronic Disease Management & Nutrition Therapy Services, . Within a multi-disciplinary team, provides a broad spectrum of nutrition services to clients of the Kidney Care Clinic (KCC). Applies extensive knowledge, skill and clinical experience to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nutritional goals and care plans of this client population. Utilizes specialized knowledge, training and skills to plan, test and implement quality improvement according to the Chronic Care Model (CCM) and Institute of Medicine (IOM) quality dimensions. Participates in the development of nutritional practice guidelines and procedures for the health authority and provincial renal programs. Initiates practice-based research projects in collaboration with the health care team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Baccalaureate degree in nutrition and dietetics
Graduate of an accredited Dietetic Internship Program or an equivalent acceptable to the facility
Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as a Dietitian
Eligible for membership with the Dietitians of Canada (DC)
Two years recent hospital dietetic experience in general acute care medicine required, with minimum 1-year renal experience; or Board certification in renal nutrition by the American Dietetic Association or equivalent certification
Demonstrated knowledge of the current theories, technologies and practices in renal care
Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles
Skills And Abilities

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients and their familes.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to assess patients with multi-system nutritional problems.

Broad knowledge of renal failure nutrition management and principles of adult education.

Ability to organize work and set priorities.

Ability to exercise critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Ability to operate related equipment, including computer and software.

Ability to adapt program as new practice guidelines are established.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
