$47.83 – 56.75/hour depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits on regular earnings, 6% vacation and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay day.
Description:
The University Arts and Sciences programming at Northern Lights College offers a wide variety of courses for students interested in various one- and two-year credentials or preparing to transfer to university programs.
We are seeking a sessional instructor to teach courses that are required components of the two-year Archaeological Diploma program and serve as electives for students in other programs:
- ARCH 200: Introduction to Archaeology and World Prehistory is offered during the Fall 2025 semester (September 2 to December 16, 2025) via synchronous online delivery. - ARCH 230: Introduction to Archaeological Heritage Management is offered during the Winter 2026 semester (January 5 to April 23) via synchronous online delivery. ** Due to the field hours component of ARCH 230, the ability to be on- site at one of NLC's campuses for a minimum of 10 hrs during the Winter 2026 term is necessary.
This position is comprised of 2 courses with 45 hours of lecture / Field hours time and 45 hours of preparation time each, and an additional 6 hours of preparation time per course for distance delivery. Total contract of up to 96 hours per course.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related discipline.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work and contribute positively to the College environment are essential.
- A supportive attitude to students and student success is expected.
** An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred:
- Experience working with First Nations communities and an understanding of traditional cultural knowledge relevant to northern BC is essential.
- PhD in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related discipline would be considered an asset.
- North American based post-baccalaureate education.
- The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program or an equivalent credential in adult education is considered an asset.
- Demonstrable success in teaching Archaeology or Anthropology courses at the post-secondary level.
- Experience delivering archaeology field courses or managing field projects.
