Position Overview
Our Finance Division is looking for a regular full-time Payroll Clerk to join the team. This is moderately complex clerical work in the preparation, calculation and completion of municipal payrolls. You will be responsible for preparing payroll for payment and verifying the accuracy of documentation as well as the input prepared by others. You will record and process payroll deductions and remittances, prepare and maintain a variety of files and records such as Worker’s Compensation claims, Record of Employment forms, routine reports as well as assist in preparing T4’s at year-end. You will also be responsible for answering enquiries from employees and municipal officials regarding a wide variety of payroll matters and assist the Payroll Supervisor as required.
The successful applicant will possess:
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices and principles in the preparation and processing of payrolls and ability to understand, interpret and apply the laws, rules, regulations, legislation and collective agreements applicable to same.
- The ability to prepare statistical reports, verify accounts for payment, and input data as well as meeting deadlines for payroll processing in an accurate and timely manner.
- The ability to understand, perform and explain payroll calculations, and to control and balance records and summaries and prepare year end reconciliations and adjustments of various payroll accounts and banks.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts and provide information and interpretation to staff on a variety of payroll related matters.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
Qualifications
You will have completed Grade 12, supplemented by related courses, along with payroll experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Designation as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or working towards would be an asset. Experience in processing “in-house” payrolls on a computer-based system such as JD Edwards or SAP is a definite asset, along with sound experience in the use of Excel, Word and Outlook.

Salary: The pay range for this unionized position is $31.97 to $37.58 per hour (2024 rates)
Hours of Work: 35-hour work week (Compressed work schedule available)
