About the role

We are looking for an entry level animal care employee who demonstrates a desire to grow long term.

As a member of Safari Niagara’s team, he/she/they will possess a commitment to deliver outstanding quality and results. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate care and accountability in all his/her/their actions as a representative of Safari Niagara to fellow employees and the general public.

Responsibilities

· Prepare diets for the collection according to predetermined meal plans.

· Aid chosen zookeepers with daily husbandries in various areas of the zoo’s animal collection to include but not limited to cleaning, weeding, raking and/or repairs.

· Work according to policy and wear proper attire at the start of every shift.

· Be open and accept any additional changes and protocols associated with your area of work.

· Aid the keepers in creating and implementing enrichment.

· Able to lift 25kgs repetitively.

· Able to stand for long periods of time.

· Able to walk long distances.

Safari Niagara Service Philosophy

· The employee will report directly to the Animal Care Manager.

· Guest Service Excellence is expected from all positions in the Safari Niagara family. This includes a great attitude, proper uniform and pleasant demeanor. Professional representation, anticipating guest personal needs and offering assistance at all times.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $17.20 per hour

Expected hours: 16 – 32 per week

About Safari Niagara

Safari Niagara, a 150-acre, privately-owned and operated nature park, is home to more than 750 animals of native and exotic mammals, reptiles and birds.

Visitors of all ages and abilities can experience the park's inhabitants on their own or through:

• free, educational guided walking tours • an educational, narrated tram ride/tour • interactive, educational demonstrations including birds of prey and threatened species presentations • supervised, educational giraffe feedings • Papa Steve's Family Farm- petting zoo • Jumping Pillows*, Pedal Go-Karts*, Sky Quest Ropes Course*, Sky Tykes*, Safari Rides*

  • These attractions are available from July 1st - Labour Day only. Weather Permitting.

In addition, visitors can enjoy spending quality time with their families and friends at Safari Niagara by taking part in many free activities including paddle boating, kite-flying catch and release fishing and playing at the large playgrounds, sandbox and animal-themed splash pad.

Safari Niagara is home to one of Canada's largest steel sculpture exhibits, on loan by artist Rod Dowling.

The park also includes an outdoor amphitheatre that is host to live concerts and events.

Safari Niagara's vision is to provide people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to meet animals, reptiles and birds up close. It is hoped that such interaction with nature will inspire future conservationists and naturalists.
