Job Summary
Reporting to the Utilities Manager, the incumbent is responsible for installation and maintenance of steam distribution and chilled water systems on the University campus.
Key Responsibilities
-
Installs, repairs and maintains steam distribution and chilled water system related devices such as but not limited to pumps, exchangers, valves, coils, traps, strainers and regulators

Performs preventive maintenance tasks on designated steam and chilled water related equipment
-
Fits, aligns, tacks, threads, braizes and/or performs minor welds
-
Makes recommendations for upgrading steam and chilled water systems based on economical and best professional judgement
-
Performs all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulations
-
Maintains a clean work environment
-
Assists other tradespersons as required

Performs other duties as required
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
-
Valid Steamfitter certificate of qualification as recognised by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour & Advanced Education; Red Seal designation an asset
-
Completion of certified trades school program preferred
-
Five years recent and related journeyperson experience
-
Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and equipment specifications
-
Familiar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulations
-
Reliable and punctual
-
Good communication and organisational skills
-
Ability to take direction
-
Familiarity with microcomputers preferred
-
Must be willing and able to work overtime, respond to after-hours calls and perform standby duties if required
-
Knowledge of the tools of the trade
-
Ability to direct others in a foreperson capacity an asset
-
General safety, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Lock Out/Tag Out, Rigging and WHMIS training an asset
