About the role

Sinai Health is looking for a Maximizing Aging Using Volunteer Engagement (MAUVE) Coordinator to support the Volunteer Resources department. The MAUVE Coordinator will support the MAUVE Program by utilizing their expertise in geriatrics, training and assessment. Working closely with Elder Life Specialist, the Care Team on the inpatient nursing units, Volunteers and our Geriatrics patients, the MAUVE Coordinator must possess sound organizational and communication skills in a fast paced environment.

In this role you will:

  • Be onsite at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital with occasional travel to Mount Sinai Hospital site
  • Support MAUVE volunteers and co-op students by providing appropriate strategies and hands-on interventions as needed
  • Provide MAUVE specific training and shadowing to volunteers
  • Conduct referral and enrol patients in the program to create targeted patient-centred interventions
  • Create new opportunities for volunteers to support patient stimulation (e.g. ball-toss where patients can practice hand-eye coordination and muscle movement)
  • Attend nursing huddles and provide support to volunteers on shift; speaking with care team to gather potential patient referrals to enrol in the program, visiting patients, completing referral form and updating the MAUVE binder in a timely manner
  • Act as liaison between internal stakeholders, volunteers, and Volunteer Resources team to provide best practice patient care
  • Answer emails and inquiries from volunteers and our internal stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Assist in administrative duties as needed
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required

Mandatory

  • Successful completion of a degree or diploma in Recreation and Gerontology or a related field from an accredited education

  • 2 years of experience in a related role

Preferred

  • Gentle Persuasive Approach, Validation, Montessori Methods/DementiAbility, P.I.E.C.E.S., and U-First! training Experience in a health care setting

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge and experience planning, developing, running and evaluating programs of all sizes preferably in a geriatric setting

  • Ability to facilitate one-on-one, small, and large small group activities and discussions, as well as develop and deliver training and make presentations

  • Ability to delegate tasks and provide feedback to volunteers and co-op students in a timely manner

  • Proven leadership and experience supporting a broad range of patients and team members

  • Exceptional interpersonal, relationship building, diplomacy and conflict management skills to interact effectively with all stakeholders

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands and changing priorities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development

  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
