WHAT WILL YOU DO
The Resource Specialist plays a critical role in managing the Airport Authority’s common-use operational assets and ensuring efficient day-of operations. Working in the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC), this position involves real-time coordination with airline partners, ground handlers, and internal stakeholders to develop gating plans, oversee aircraft towing and parking, and assign check-in, and baggage carousel resources. Reporting to the Manager, Operations – Airports, the Specialist is responsible for monitoring and adjusting resource allocations to respond to schedule changes, special requests, and irregular operations while ensuring facilities are used to their maximum efficiency. Additionally, the role requires proactive communication with business partners and leadership, continuous assessment of operational needs, resolution of potential conflicts, and support during emergency responses when necessary.
WHATS THE TEAM LIKE
The Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) operates 24/7 365 providing a consistent and collaborative response to operational needs at the Calgary International Airport. The IOC is the “heart” of YYC’s operations – one team creating significant enhancements and a seamless, customer-focused response to all operational activities both in the terminal and on the airfield.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate real-time resource changes including common-use operational resources and activities such as aircraft gates, aircraft towing and parking movements, check-in counters, offload sheds, baggage make-up units, and baggage carousels in alignment with Facility Scheduling Procedures (FSP) and Capacity Planning master plan.
- Implement IROP procedures (Irregular Operations) when required.
- Liaise directly with airline operations centres and ground handers to ensure the Resource Management System (RMS), Airport Operations Database reflects the most current and accurate flight and aircraft information.
- Continuously monitor and amend RMS for scheduling conflicts and work collaboratively to resolve conflicts with the airlines involved by following the FSP.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and standards to deliver consistent and efficient operations.
- Use the Resource Management System (RMS) to confirm and make operationally required adjustments to the Capacity Planning master plan for the next day resource assignments, ensuring there are no conflicts.
- Advise the Manager, Operations - Airports (MOA) of any issues or peak events in the next day schedule that require awareness and possible follow up.
- Work directly with airlines to ensure best utilization of resources for their individual needs and escalate to the MOA if issues arise.
- Escalate operational risks and critical issues such as gate holds, delayed departures or canceled flights to the MOA.
- Notify MOA of any operational concerns including unscheduled peaks due to delays, airline operational issues that are affecting on-time performance, resource outages due to maintenance.
- Participate in MOA daily operational briefings.
- Prepare end of day shift reports and conduct detailed shift briefings for the MOA and the incoming Resource Specialist, to ensure operational continuity.
- Complete incident reports for gate holds or other incidents that occur due to resource assignments.
- Provide subject matter expertise on policy and procedure development related to facility resources including the Swing Gate Control System program.
- Input information / data into the incident reporting systems to allow for the evaluation trends and vulnerabilities relative to security, safety, environment and operations
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING
- Alternatively, a high school diploma combined with relevant experience may be considered.
- Role requires a minimum 3+ years of experience in complex operations, preferably in airport operations, or a similarly regulated, operational environment.
- Familiarity with airport operations, airline operations and integrated operations is required.
- Strong understanding of how to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic and demanding operations setting.
- Superior interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Flexibility and ability to engage and collaborate with stakeholders and airline customers, such as: operational staff, other data analysts, industry partners and aviation industry (both current and prospective contacts).
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well in both individually and in a team environment.
- Results driven with the ability to work under pressure
WHAT OPTIONAL ELEMENTS SUPPORT YOUR APPLICATION (all are assets)
- Bilingual in English or French.
- A post-secondary diploma in a related field such as aviation, airport operations, emergency management or a related discipline is preferred.
- Experience in airport or airline operations with a strong focus on passenger processing and flow, enabling a comprehensive understanding of all operational phases and their impact on terminal capacity, throughput, and overall passenger experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of the Airport Terminal building, gates, sectors, aircraft identification, regulatory requirements for swing gate operations and aircraft adjacency restrictions is preferred.
- Familiarity with airport security, border security and transborder operations is preferred.
- Experience working in an airline scheduling environment or other related industries is preferred.
- Familiarity with RMS, airport security systems or other airport systems technology is considered an asset.
