Job Overview
As the Senior Financial Analyst, you will be part of a financial and administrative team that provides budgetary, accounting, and program support to various divisions within the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI). You will regularly provide financial insight to the Director and Senior Management and work closely with the Management Board Secretariat (MBS) and Finance and Administration staff in headquarters and the regions.
In this role, you will be responsible for delivering technical financial management support and analysis, maintaining and reporting on tangible capital assets, and monitoring compliance with governing authorities. All responsibilities are carried out in accordance with GNWT acts, regulations, policies, and procedures, including the Financial Administration Act, Financial Administration Manual, Contract Regulations, and Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze financial data, forecasts, and reports to support departmental decision-making.
- Maintain and report on tangible capital assets, including reconciliations and amortization.
- Provide financial support for departmental programs and manage Fund 3 and third-party projects.
- Conduct compliance reviews and risk assessments to ensure adherence to GNWT policies.
- Monitor internal controls and recommend improvements to financial procedures.
- Lead financial training sessions and maintain up-to-date procedure manuals.
- Collaborate with senior management and internal stakeholders on financial planning and reporting.
Key Skills and Qualifications

Knowledge of:
- Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards and tangible capital asset accounting
- GNWT financial systems, internal controls, and compliance standards
- Auditing concepts and database/software tools (Excel, MS Word, accounting systems)

Skills in:
- Financial analysis, planning, budgeting, and compliance review
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication
- Training delivery, report writing, and collaboration across departments
- Practicing diversity, inclusion, cultural awareness, and workplace sensitivity

Education & Experience:
- Completion of Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) core modules and current enrollment in elective modules
- Minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered, including:
- Holding a CPA designation within one (1) year
- Minimum of four (4) years directly related experience
