About the role

Hydraulic Design Engineer

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, this role will be responsible for working with the engineering team to design, develop, and improve the hydraulic systems and components of Skyjack equipment.

Performance Expectations:

  • Prepare design concepts and production drawings with supporting calculations and material data ensuring that designs meet specification requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Design, formulate and produce complete product related changes for current products in a continuous improvement environment. Improve warranty, ease of assembly, and expand product options for production.
  • Contact and interact with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to investigate technologies and their applications.
  • Design and test prototypes. Employ data collection, analysis techniques, and optimization to achieve target performance.
  • Communicates with other Engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design(s) to ensure alignment for completion.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for all aspects of assigned projects.
  • Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide support in checking details, assemblies and BOMs for assigned projects.
  • Mentor other Engineering Designers and Design Engineers.
  • Perform Simulation for hydraulic systems and components using Automation Studio and/or Simscape Fluids
  • Apply a wide variety of established or modified engineering methods or techniques with considerable independence of action.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Credentials:

  • University or college degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or any other relevant engineering based programs.
  • Preference will be given to candidates registered or working towards their P.Eng designation.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience as a Hydraulic Designer or Hydraulics Design Engineer in a heavy equipment (or related) manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hydraulic controls and general electrical skills, Mechanical design, GD&T, DFMEA, welding/fabrication processes.
  • Design experience with SolidWorks (with formal training preferred); experience with Automation Studio and/or Simscape Fluids is a bonus.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well with a cross functional technical team as well as with manufacturing personnel.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to create, read, and interpret Electrical and Hydraulic Schematics.
  • In depth understanding of PC and LS hydraulic systems.
  • Experience in designing various control circuits including open and closed center hydraulics.
  • Experience in designing hydrostatic closed loop drive systems.
  • Experience in designing with fixed and variable displacement piston pumps and gear pumps
  • Experience in designing with cartridge valves and electro-proportional controls
  • Hydraulic hose sizing and routing experience
  • Hydraulic filtration design experience
  • Troubleshooting of various control circuits experience
  • Familiarity of Automation Studio and/ or Simscape Fluids would be beneficial
  • Hydraulic testing and development of hydraulic test plans would be beneficial
