About the role

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Primary Care the Nurse Practitioner (NP) respectfully works with diversity including sexual and gender minorities, and across all ethnicities and cultural, spiritual, political, age, ability, family and economic circumstances. Using a culturally safe, client centered, strength based, and harm reduction approach and with an emphasis on providing HIV/sexually transmitted and blood borne infection (STBBI) care, the NP provides competent primary care and episodic same day health services in clinic and outreach settings including community settings, shelters, encampments and client’s homes.

As part of the interdisciplinary team, the NP works independently and collaboratively to provide professional, evidence-informed, holistic care within a low barrier clinic environment and in a range of community settings. As part of a primary care team, their care includes assessment, diagnostic testing, diagnosis, clinical intervention and treatment, care planning, prescribing, minor procedures, follow-up, teaching, illness prevention, health promotion and education, and chronic disease management. The focus of this position is for in the moment care.

This position can be utilized as full time, as a job share or as part-time. As full time, the position is 77.5 hours per two-week period. As part time, the two positions are part-time, 38.75 hours per two-week period (including holiday pay hours). The regular workdays for this position will fall between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Occasional weekends may be required.

This position is covered by the Collective Agreement between Manitoba Nurses Union and the Winnipeg Employers Organization. A comprehensive benefit package is provided as per employee eligibility via HEB Manitoba.

Qualifications

Required Education, Certifications and Experience: • Graduate nursing degree at the Master’s level, as a Nurse Practitioner • Current NP practicing registration with CRNM. • Basic Provider Basic Life Support Certificate

Preferred Education and Certifications: • Addictions and Mental Health training and certifications • Opioid Agonist Treatment prescriber training

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience • Minimum 3 years of experience in primary care. Preference will be given to those with clinical experience in fast paced and independent practice settings such as emergency departments, mental health and crisis services, intensive care units and northern nursing stations.
