Job Overview
Jensen Hughes currently has an immediate opening for an Associate Fire Engineer / Code Consultant based in our Toronto office.
This is a client-facing, technical role suited for a motivated individual with a strong foundation in fire protection or building code consulting. The successful candidate will contribute to code compliance reviews, fire protection strategies, and the development of alternative solutions under applicable building and fire codes.
Responsibilities
- Review architectural and engineering plans to evaluate code compliance
- Interpret and apply the Ontario Building Code (OBC), Ontario Fire Code (OFC), and National Codes where applicable
- Prepare detailed building code analysis and technical reports
- Support the development and implementation of fire safety strategies
- Liaise directly with clients, project teams, and municipal authorities
- Provide technical expertise on projects across multiple sectors
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment with client needs and project timelines
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Fire Protection preferred), or a Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in building code consulting, fire protection design, or a related discipline
- Working knowledge of the OBC, OFC, and relevant National Codes
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Ability to lead project components, engage clients, and present technical findings
- Experience conducting plan reviews and/or site inspections considered an asset
- Commitment to continuous learning and interest in pursuing a P.Eng. license or CET designation is encouraged
