About the role

Position: Resource Teacher Reports to: Principal

Date: August 25th, 2025 Position Type: Full – Time during School Year

The Lower Kootenay Indian Band, near Creston, is seeking to fill the position of a Resource Teacher for the Band’s K – 7 school, with a commitment to primary aged students (K to 3). Yaqan Nukiy School is certified and accredited by both the BC Ministry of Education and the First Nations School Association.

Teachers are provided with ongoing professional development opportunities through the FNSA.

Position Summary The start date of this position is August 25th, 2025 and will end June 27th, 2026 . This position involves the provision of instruction, preparation, assessment, classroom management, professional development and school meetings, community and parental relations and adherence to all Yaqan Nukiy School and BC Ministry of Education policies and procedures.

Preference Will Be Given To Candidates With The Following

  • Possession of (or eligibility for) B.C. Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate
  • Successful teaching experience in a First Nations community
  • Ability to meet the challenges of classroom management and differentiated curriculum delivery at the Kindergarten level and successfully address student challenges in emotional and social areas
  • Familiarity with computer technology in the delivery of curriculum
  • Ability to cultivate regular, meaningful dialogue between school and home to support parental engagement in the learning process of students
  • Willingness to participate in extra-curricular programs to engage students beyond the academic arena in outdoor education and Ktunaxa language and culture.
  • Willingness to engage with local culture and participate in community events
  • Special consideration will be given to applicants with Acadience (DIBELS), Readwell and/or Jump Math experience.
