ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skill, Experience)

  • Current Certification of Competence as a Registered Practical Nurse with the Ontario College of Nurses.
  • RPN Diploma preferred.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years acute surgical experience (within the last 3 years) in the pre-operative preparation and post-operative care of the surgical patient.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles of asepsis.
  • Certification in the management of patients with epimorph for pain control within the last 2 years.
  • Knowledge in the identification and care of instruments and procedure trays.

-Computer Skills - Intranet, Microsoft Office, Care Manager, STAR, Solcom, Risk Monitor Pro.

  • Geriatric experience preferred
  • Practice level consistent with the full scope of practice as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario, which includes but is not limited to:
  • Evidence of the successful, administration and management of blood & blood

products.

  • Evidence of the successful completion and/or practice in processing

physician orders, administration of oral, subcutaneous, IM, suppository,

aerosol and IV medications, venipuncture and IV initiation and management.

  • Demonstrated adherence to the expectations of nursing practice at CKHA.
  • Member of RPNAO preferred.
