Job Summary

The School of Nursing is recognized for advancing nursing knowledge, practice and policy. Exceptional nurses begin and further their education and careers at Dalhousie University. Reporting to the Administrative Manager, the Simulation Lab Technician will support the Coordinator Simulation-Based Education Lab and its users and staff, including faculty, students and other lab technician, by setting up and maintaining equipment and supplies for programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up for clinical competency practice labs and simulations on a daily basis, and reset stations between groups. This includes organizing supplies and equipment, and setting up simulation pads, mannequins and audio/video equipment.

  • Trouble shoot any equipment, supply and set-up issues that arise before, during or after labs and simulations.

  • Support pre-simulation activities including copying materials, and assisting with the preparation, documentation, and tracking of student lab utilization and scheduling. Meet weekly with faculty and staff to assist in the planning for weekly simulations/labs and identify programming requirements.

  • Assist with student movement to stations and rooms and distribute paperwork during simulations/labs.

  • Complete post-simulation and lab dismantling of equipment and supplies. Ensure security of environment including all equipment and supplies.

Note

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma plus approximately three years’ experience in a healthcare or healthcare post-secondary simulation environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience).

  • Demonstrated experience with nursing/medical equipment, supplies and terminology.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, including independent decision making, problem-solving and attention to detail, in an ever-changing environment with shifting priorities.

  • Strong collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to exercise judgment, sensitivity and diplomacy when dealing with students and colleagues.

  • Ability to lift and move items up to 25 kg, stand for up to four hours at a time as well as some stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching and other movements.
