Your Role in Our Journey
We are seeking a part-time detail-oriented Inventory Assistant to join our team at our food production facility.
This role is responsible for assisting the Inventory Manager with receiving orders from multiple suppliers, daily, weekly and monthly inventory counts, ensuring product is organized using FIFO and following all food safety regulations in a CFIA/SQF certified facility.
The ideal candidate communicates in a confident, clear and consistent manner. You are self-motivated and enjoy working on your own. You excel at balancing multiple tasks and taking ownership over each one from start to finish. You consistently look for opportunities to improve processes, respect tight deadlines and hold yourself accountable.
Responsibilities:
Order Verification & Quality Assurance:
- Receive and inspect all incoming shipments of fresh produce, dairy items, canned and dried goods, and specialty food products.
- Record, label and store all incoming materials following all facility regulations.
- Communicate with the Inventory Manager and Procurement Team to report discrepancies, stock levels, and any issues related to received goods.
Inventory Management:
- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records by verifying received goods against purchase orders.
- Work closely with the Inventory Manager to manage product storage, including proper placement and organization.
- Implement FIFO (First-In, First-Out) practices to ensure that all products are used in the correct order, minimizing waste and spoilage. This includes product that has been prepped for production.
- Assist with inventory counts and cycle counts as required.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all receiving activities are performed in compliance with SQF food safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times; following all health and safety guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Must be willing to be forklift certified.
- Prior experience working with food, especially fresh produce (e.g., arugula, kale, spinach, lettuce, fruits and vegetables), dairy products (e.g., cheese, bacon), and canned/dried goods (e.g., pickles, spices, oils, mayonnaise) an asset.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure that all orders are accurate, goods are in good condition, and inventory is properly managed.
- Ability to effectively communicate with the Inventory Manager, Procurement team, and other staff members to ensure smooth workflow and resolve any issues.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and prioritizing efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of food safety standards and practices, particularly related to the handling of perishable goods.
- Previous experience in a receiving, inventory, or quality assurance role within a food production or distribution setting an asset.
- Ability to easily and comfortably lift and move 50lbs.
Schedule & Location:
- Part-time schedule to be determined, approximately 20-30 hours per week.
- Mondays/Wednesdays and either Fridays/Saturdays.
