About the role

Summary To perform the duties as required in the MC Shop department specific to the CNC machines in order to ensure production requirements are met as well as being responsible for setup, programming and troubleshooting. This position will require programming capability and familiarity with Citizen, Hanwha, Miyano and Hardinge CNC lathes is required. The duties outlined are to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner ensuring quality of the product and production rates are met.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties
- Set up, operate, program and troubleshoot various CNC machines
- Lead and train CNC operators in troubleshooting and correcting faults
- Read and edit programs on CNC equipment with various controllers
- Troubleshoot tooling and equipment issues
- Fill out production sheets, tags, and Shoplogix
- Produce products to the rates and standards as set out in the Work Order
- Follow proper setup instructions and procedures (layouts)
- Read and interpret production blueprints
- Use appropriate gauges in order to produce products to quality standards
- Report quality and/or tooling issues
- Perform minor repairs on equipment as required
- Ensure product is running at optimum cycle times according to standards
- Edit and modify CNC computer programs as necessary
- Communicate effectively with service technicians as required
- Rotation through various work cells and shifts

Health & Safety
- Maintain a safe workplace
- Wear Personal Protective equipment as required on the shop floor
- Comply with the company policies, procedures, and OHSA (Occupational Health & Safety Act)
- Participation is required in our internal responsibility system (right to know, right to refuse, right to participate)
- Follow safe work and lockout / tagout procedures as required
- Report unsafe conditions or hazards as soon as possible to your supervisor
- Maintain a clean working environment
- Adhere to and maintain WHMIS 2015 requirements
- Annual medical surveillance may be required
Quality
- Follow all area work instructions and procedures in order to ensure quality standards are adhered to
- Measure product with supplied gauging as outlined in the quality standards to ensure quality products are being made
- Report any potentially defective or damaged products or packaging to the quality dept and your supervisor
- Follow the control of non-conforming product procedure for any defective products found in your area
- Use the vision system to complete first off inspection per run
Autonomous Maintenance
- Prior to start of shift, take 10 min to inspect your work cell to the cell specific AM requirements
- Sign off on the AM checklist daily (initial and date)
- Follow the Process Problem Solving and Escalation system as required for any issues found
5s
- Ensure your work area is maintained at required daily 5S standards
- Take 5 minutes at the end of your shift to follow the daily 5S standards as posted in your work cell
- Sign off on the 5S checklist daily (initial and date)
- Correct any deviations from 5S standards immediately or write it down on the cell board for follow up
- Support the monthly 5S clean up as required
Daily Management
- Input WO and production information as required into the Shoplogix system
- Input scrap during shift on Shoplogix system (input the scrap code and quantity)
- Input the correct downtime code for any downtime that the Shoplogix system identifies
- Participate in DM meetings and problem solving on a weekly basis
- Use cell level board and data to drive process problem solving and escalation
- Communicate issues at the cell level board as required
Standard Work
- Follow Standard Work procedures as posted in the cell
- Correct any deviations from standard work procedures immediately
Qualification
- Ability to read blueprints
- Programming capability is a must and familiarity with Citizen, Hanwha, Miyano and Hardinge CNC lathes is required
- Ability to read, and comprehend various machine manuals
- Ability to use various measuring devices
- Ability to use JDE system (Work orders for products)
- Knowledge of all quality related requirements for inspection
- Ability to understand CNC machine programs and fault correction
- Swiss-style CNC program, set-up, and operate (Hanwha/Fanuc preferred)
- Good math skills are required
- Excellent computer skills
- Ability to read and follow work instructions
- Ability to read job packages and Work Orders
- Technical background and general knowledge of machines
- Knowledge and ability to do tool grinding
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Successful completion of all applicable pre-employment testing
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Must obtain a grade of 90% or better
- Programming capability a must and familiarity with Citizen, Miyano, Hanwha and Hardinge CNC lathes is required
Educational Requirements
- O.S.S.D or equivalent
- Having a passing grad of 90% or better on all testing requirements
