About the role

Position: Business Development Specialist, Lumber/Construction

Location: Vaughan, ON

Schedule: In-person/hybrid; Monday to Friday

We are currently working with a valued client to find a driven and dynamic Business Development Specialist for the Industrial/Construction/Lumber sector. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify and reach out to potential customers to assess their needs and determine if they are a good fit for the company’s products.
  • Cultivate and sustain a loyal customer base with regular purchases.
  • Build and expand prospect lists through various research methods, continuously seeking new opportunities.
  • Manage existing customer accounts, offering exceptional support through effective communication and order processing.
  • Foster long-term relationships with customers to encourage repeat business.
  • Negotiate deals to ensure both profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Meet sales, account acquisition, and profit margin targets through daily sales activities.
  • Work closely with product managers and buyers to ensure a consistent product supply and stay informed on market trends.
  • Assist with collections and other account-related tasks as needed.
  • Travel to meet customers and prospects to strengthen relationships.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills.
  • Perform additional tasks as required to achieve company objectives.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a high-energy sales environment.
  • Self-motivated and goal-oriented with a strong work ethic, capable of making well-informed decisions under pressure.
  • Comfortable with a compensation structure that includes commissions as part of total earnings.
  • Familiarity with softwood lumber and panels is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, structural wood products, and retail operations is beneficial.
  • Must have reliable access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
  • Strong phone sales abilities with a confident, personable, and professional communication style.
  • Exceptional business acumen, with a collaborative team mindset and professional demeanor.
  • Highly results-driven, with a strong sense of ambition and self-motivation.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and effectively solve problems.
