Overview
Reporting to the Culinary Supervisor, Hospitality Supervisor (Aspen Commons), Sous Chef (Westview Town Suites) the Dining Attendant is responsible to provide support to the kitchen in the preparation, service, and cleanup of all meals.
Responsibilities
- Facilitates food services, performing a variety of both kitchen and dining assigned tasks. Serves meals and beverages in a polite and professional manner.
- Performs daily/weekly clearing, cleaning, and setting up of the dining room and service areas.
- Performs daily/weekly food preparation and cleanup duties in the kitchen, such as dishwashing, as scheduled and directed by the Culinary Supervisor.
- Completes documentation of required tasks.
- Reports resident concerns to the Culinary Supervisor or Community Manager.
- Acts in the capacity of a Cook as requested.
- Participates in in and promotes Silvera’s Health and Safety Program. Reports any unsafe work conditions to the Culinary Supervisor or Community Manager.
- Performs Accounting for Residents at all meals and reports any unexplained absences to the Culinary Supervisor or Community Manager.
- Assists with the receiving and stocking of all food, non-food supplies, and chemicals.
- Maintain annual training compliance with regards to TLC training.
- Participates in and promotes Silvera’s Health and Safety program.
- Other duties as assigned.

Casual employees must have availability to work at a minimum of 4 days per week, including some weekends.
Casual employees must be willing to work (and be trained) in multiple positions.
Casual employees must be willing to work and support all Silvera Communities in all quadrants of Calgary.
Casual employees must work minimum shifts and must not refuse to take shifts offered without a valid reason and approval. Casual employee’s employment, after three refusals to take up shift(s) or for not working any shift(s) within 3 months, may be terminated with Silvera for Seniors due to “abandonment of position”.
Casual employees will not have any guaranteed work hours each pay period and will be called to work when needed. The Employee Scheduler will send emails to multiple staff offering same shifts, in order to get shifts covered right away. Shifts are first come first served thus the reason no guaranteed hours.
Casual employees must report any time off request to the Employee Scheduler at least 2 weeks in advance.
Casual employees are not entitled to any benefits other than vacation pay.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of prior food service experience preferred.
- Maintains a high standard of hygiene and personal appearance.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must be well organized and have the ability to problem-solve.
- Must have at least a General Education Diploma (GED).
- Able to work independently and as a team member to meet deadlines.

- Must be able to lift objects up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Will be required to do repetitive work.
- Will be exposed to:
o Corrosive and non-corrosive chemicals.
o Frequent bending and stretching.
o Pulling and pushing, lifting furniture.
Hours of Work
Rotational shift work required, including weekends. All shifts are 8.5 hours and will fall within the range of 7:00am – 7:00pm.
