About the role

Job Summary:

The  Structural Steel Materials & Logistics Coordinator  plays a pivotal role in planning, sourcing, inventory management, and safe transport of structural steel components for custom bridge fabrication projects. This position demands hands-on expertise in steel material dimensions, weight estimation, and truck load optimization, ensuring efficient coordination between engineering, production, and logistics teams.

What You Will Do:

1. Material Planning & Procurement

  • Analyze project-specific Bills of Materials (BOM), estimating accurate lengths, quantities, and weights of structural steel components.
  • Calculate truck payload and volume capacities to optimize steel load plans.
  • Obtain quotes and manage procurement for structural steel materials.
  • Track delivery timelines and coordinate with vendors to meet project schedules.

2. Work Order & Fabrication Coordination

  • Generate work orders once materials are confirmed and ready for fabrication.
  • Liaise with production to schedule fabrications aligned with load readiness.

3. Shipping & Logistics

  • Plan and coordinate shipments of fabricated steel, including delivery for galvanization and dispatch to job sites.
  • Ensure safe transport by managing steel weight distribution and maximizing truck use while observing regulatory limits.
  • Prepare and distribute shipping documentation, including load manifests and carrier instructions.

4. Inventory Management

  • Monitor inventory levels of structural steel items by size and weight.
  • Assist with cycle counts and staging materials for efficient truck load assembly.
  • Coordinate with warehouse teams to maintain organized staging areas.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a point of contact between engineering, procurement, operations, and logistics teams.
  • Escalate and resolve material discrepancies or loading challenges promptly.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance steel logistics and material planning processes.

What You Will Need:

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma required; post-secondary education in logistics, supply chain, or engineering is preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience  in materials coordination or logistics within a fabrication, construction, or manufacturing environment—specifically involving structural steel.

Skills & Competencies

  • Familiarity with ERP systems and BOM interpretation.
  • Strong practical understanding of structural steel dimensions and truck loading constraints.
  • Proficient Excel skills for load planning and inventory tracking.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and vendor management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced settings and manage priorities effectively.

Compensation & Work Conditions

  • Salary Range:  CAD 52,000 – 63,000 per year (based on experience and fit).
  • Schedule:  Office-based with regular interaction with production and occasional site or warehouse visits.

  • Location:  Thorndale, Ontario—daily commute required.
