The Opportunity
The Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan seeks an effective communicator, cross-team collaborator, and innovator with strong organizational and problem-solving skills for the Bilingual Reference & Outreach Archivist position. The PAS Reference and Outreach Services Unit (ROS) is a small and friendly team responsible for public reference services and outreach programming for the PAS.
In this challenging and rewarding position, the Bilingual Reference & Outreach Archivist will be responsible for:

Reference service delivery in English and French to the public and government, including research and reproduction services for distance and in-person clients, and using enquiry management software.

Outreach services delivery in English and French, including presentations and tours, exhibit development, social media, and other activities to engage the public.

Teamwork and collaboration with the ROS team and other PAS units to ensure the research needs of the public are being met, and our outreach programming objectives are being met.

Positive verbal and written communication with all public clients, external government agencies, and other PAS staff.

Assisting other units with French records, including, but not limited to, appraisal, accessioning, description, and processing.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a customer service advocate. You will have strong communication skills and be willing to adapt them to the needs of your audience. You will be adept at working with others across an organization. You will demonstrate respect and appreciation for the uniqueness of all individuals. You will be passionate about history and engaging the public with it.
They must also possess:
- Knowledge of client service delivery in an archives, library, museum, or heritage institution; and archival theory, principles, and applicable legal requirements for access to and use of records (including The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, The Health Information Protection Act, and The Copyright Act).
- Knowledge of archival theory, including conservation and preservation methods.
- Graduate-level knowledge of research methods, you will assist and analyze the research needs of a diverse clientele ranging from the general public to PhD-level researchers.
- Knowledge of the history of Canada, including Saskatchewan and the Canadian West.
- Strong problem-solving skills to determine underlying causes of problems, evaluate available alternatives, and use sound thought processes and relevant experience to make appropriate choices in a timely manner, even in challenging situations.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and competing deadlines.
To qualify for this exciting position, the candidate will have:
- The ability to read, write, and speak English and French fluently.
- Master's degree in Archival Science, or History, or Library and Information Science, or a master's degree in a similar course of study, or an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience.
- Supplemental training courses in archival science and/or experience working in archives are an asset.
Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be willing and able to work in an environment where there may be exposure to dust, moulds, mildew, and physically lift, move and/or transport heavy boxes of materials weighing up to approximately 15 kg onto shelves and/or between worksites using a CVA vehicle. You will receive training on the safe operation of lift equipment to retrieve materials in our storage area at heights up to 8 metres.

A written and verbal exam to test French fluency will be required.
