We have been involved in innovative subway infrastructure work, such as the Highway 407 stations and Northern Tunnels for the Toronto York Spadina Subway Line Expansion, as well as the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Fredericton Moncton Highway. FCC Canada excels in civil works such as roads, railways, maritime construction, tunnels, bridges, and subway projects.
Scarborough Subway Extension (SSE - SRS)
The 50/50 joint venture between Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc. and FCC Canada Ltd. will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometres farther into Scarborough, replacing Line 3 (the Scarborough RT). It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The construction is split into two contracts: Advanced Tunnelling (AT) and Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS). Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is the partner for the development phase.

Project Opportunity
As part of the STC project, FCC is looking for a Design Manager – Linewide join our team.
Reports to: Technical Manager
The Design Manager – Linewide will be responsible for liaising with the design team, the construction team and project management team, as well as other members of the project team on the delivery of design deliverables and information required for construction.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage the design team in the delivery of linewide (track and alignment, systems and tunnel fit-out, etc.) technical package for the SSE-SRS project.
- Coordinate with the Design team, Construction team and stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
- Review the linewide design submissions to ensure compliance with the specified design requirements and standards, identifying design or interdisciplinary issues, ensuring that constructability and construction’s means and methods are coordinated with the Construction team.
- Identify potential risks and mitigation strategies.
- Monitor designers’ performance in accordance with the design schedule and track design changes.
- Maintain effective communication with stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, suppliers and regulatory authorities.
- Provide regular updates on project progress, technical issues and risk management.
- Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a technical project management role, preferably in the transportation or infrastructure sector.
- Professional certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) are an asset.
- Proven experience in design management of rail and transit projects or similar large-scale infrastructure projects.
Job Requirements
- Thorough understanding of design process cycle, contracts, plans, construction drawings, specification developments and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of engineering and architectural principles, project management methodologies and industry standards.
- Proficiency in project management software and computer applications such as Aconex, Bluebeam, Navisworks, Revit and MS Office (MS Project, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Ability to plan, schedule and organize a variety of activities and deal with stressful situations on tight deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
- A strong eye for design details and the ability to coordinate design and assist in making design-driven decisions.
- Excellent analytical, communication, problem-solving and negotiation skills to lead discussions and work with internal/external stakeholders.
