About the role

Functional Area Lead Slave Lake, Alberta

Our Functional Area Leads are responsible for monitoring the woodroom & logyard teams to safely maintain a constant flow of wood into the mill in order to create quality strands for the green bins while keeping all equipment maintained and in good working order. This position is also responsible for setting and meeting aggressive targets in safety, quality, production, uptime, efficiency and spending.  Sound like something you may be interested in? We’re looking for a Functional Area Lead - Logyard & Woodroom to join our  Athabasca OSB Division, located in Slave Lake, Alberta. This  state-of-the-art facility has the longest continuous press in North America, giving us the ability to produce a diverse range of innovative products for customers around the world.

Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will have previous supervisory experience in an industrial, manufacturing environment .
  • Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills .
  • A good working knowledge of OSB manufacturing, experience with continuous process, operating large industrial machinery, and working with computer spreadsheets will be considered definite assets.
  • Strong profit orientation and excellent communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to stay organized in a fast paced environment .
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with computer programs
    • Microsoft office (excel, word, outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Proficient with maintenance management systems , such as JD Edwards considered an asset

In this role you will:

  • Operate in a safe manner in accordance to work safe rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Support employee development of direct reports through coaching, feedback and performance management .
  • Conduct competency assessments .
  • Lead and plan all operational tasks on down days.
  • Responsible for housekeeping in the woodroom and logyard.
  • Making regular rounds of areas.
  • Assist team leaders to maintain woodroom and logyard throughout, training and strand quality.
  • Lead the maintenance requirements for the woodroom and logyard.
  • Accurate record keeping of logbooks , production reports and downtime and equipment breakdown reports.
  • Review follow up reports , team leader production reports and shift maintenance reports to complete root cause analysis and create action plans to address issues.
  • In conjunction with the production team leaders ensure all new employees in the woodroom and/or logyard are trained in the safe operating procedures of plant equipment and are aware of the location of fire equipment and are familiar with the proper firefighting procedures.
  • Provide leadership, direction and guidance as required .
  • Other duties as assigned, not limited to the employee’s current area of responsibility but in all areas of the plant as deemed necessary by the employee’s supervisor.
