Director, Head of Protection Products

About the role

Position details: Our recently formed Protection Product business distributes automobile protection and insurance (warranty) products nationally through our franchised dealer/distributor networks. The Director, Protection Products, is responsible for creating demand for branded Hyundai and Genesis protection/insurance product programs. To support the value proposition to dealers, the Director will work closely with the Chief Sales Officer, our administrator and field sales teams to develop product and sales strategies, set pricing policies, structure incentives, implement programs, and oversee all business function and program operation. The position requires extensive work with Senior Management to develop the annual business plan for protection product sales, set benchmarks, and evaluate performance of the protection product suite. The position also requires proven success in interacting directly with Dealer Principals, OEM partners, internal departments and overseas stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Business Function Management:
  • Develop annual business plan, meet objectives in plan, communicate progress towards plan both internally and externally to key stakeholders on a regular basis
  • Lead operations of business function, including defining/documenting/analyzing processes and adapting to changing environment by revaluating processes, technology, structure, policies, procedures to ensure best practices are in place
  • Manage and evaluate product and pricing for all protection product programs in conjunction with Field Sales, the OEMs and Sr. Management and responsible for delivery of key KPIs and profitable portfolio growth
  • Develop new and existing product offerings or coverage enhancements within the product suite, including customized solutions for “key” accounts
  • Successfully manage all program vendors: program administrators, insurers, actuarial service providers, and other necessary dealer service providers
  • Build and manage competitive intelligence competency to accelerate growth
  1. Field Execution Management:
  • Interface with Sr. Management and Field Sales organization to prioritize new product and initiative development and set benchmarks and controls for sales execution
  • Set and evaluate program/incentive budgets with Field Operations & Finance
  • Review and assess all Field Sales proposals and deal submissions
  1. Business Development:
  • Design and execute strategy to generate revenue growth through dealer relationships, dealer conquest activities and by meeting with key dealer groups (key accounts)
  • Lead key account business development implementation. Follow-up key account lead referrals resulting from Field Sales activities. As required, present and sell branded product suite to key accounts.
  • Set business development objectives and partner with HCCA Management to align protection product programs and incentives strategies
  1. Team Management:
  • Provide support and leadership at the national level to Field Sales
  • Hire, train and coach Program Manager while developing succession plan
  • Effectively communicate corporate and functional objectives on a regular basis. Motivate and create a positive working environment to achieve productivity and performance standards.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years directly related professional protection product and business development experience
  • 7+ years of progressive management responsibility within the automotive, automotive finance or insurance sectors
  • Product pricing and portfolio management experience is a plus
  • Related protection product sales or dealer management experience is a plus

Education:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience preferred, MBA a plus

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated expertise in protection products and the automotive industry
  • Proven ability to develop compelling business cases and manage projects effectively
  • Experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders in business development or consultative roles, with a strong track record of building trusted relationships and influencing decision-making when needed
