The Opportunity:

As our Director of Engineering, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Cronometer's technology. With 18 engineers across three growing development teams, you'll provide leadership, foster a cohesive engineering culture, and drive strategic initiatives. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about building high-performing teams and is eager to embrace the challenges and rewards of leading engineering efforts in a dynamic, fast-growing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Management:
  • Oversee and mentor engineering managers across all development teams.
  • Cultivate a unified engineering culture that aligns with Cronometer's values.
  • Champion a culture of engineering excellence through clean code practices, strong testing standards, documentation, and internal knowledge sharing.
  • Determine high-level structuring and organization of development teams.
  • Ensure consistent team practices around rituals like retrospectives, project planning, technical designs, reviews and demos to promote continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Strategic Planning:
  • Establish and track meaningful engineering KPIs (velocity, cycle time, deployment frequency, etc.) to monitor and improve team performance
  • Define and maintain SLOs, SLAs, and technical KPIs that align engineering output with business expectations along with accountability practices
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance R&D capabilities and drive innovation.
  • Prioritize technical initiatives, balancing immediate deliverables with long-term investments.
  • Navigate and integrate advancements in AI to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Technical Oversight:
  • Collaborate closely with senior individual contributors to drive architectural decisions, uphold technical standards, and align engineering execution with strategic goals
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and maintainable code across all platforms.
  • Lead efforts to address technical debt, including major technical migrations.
  • Enhance security protocols and bolster our security posture.
  • Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the senior leadership to align engineering goals with overall company objectives.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to support product development and user experience enhancements.
  • Address and mitigate any silos & ensure seamless collaboration.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in engineering leadership roles, preferably within SaaS or health-tech sectors.
  • Strong background in software development, with familiarity in modern web and mobile technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve team dynamics and foster a collaborative environment.
  • Experience in handling legacy codebases and leading significant technical migrations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with executive leadership and diverse teams.
