Accessible Services Operators are skilled professionals who provide safe, courteous public transit services. Primary duties include:

  • Transport customers to all city locations, and courteously respond to their needs.
  • Safely operate transit vehicles in a variety of weather and road conditions and in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Understand and be empathetic to the needs of customers, ensuring proper care and attention is provided.
  • Provide assistance to customers who are ambulatory, require service animals, use wheelchairs, scooters, or other mobility devices.
  • Adhere to schedules, work with technology such as Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) and have strong city knowledge.
  • Inform customers of appropriate fares.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A completed Canadian High School diploma, GED, or certified international equivalent and at least 1 year experience working with individuals with disabilities is required.
  • A valid class 4 Operator's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 3 demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending is required, and the ability to acquire a Calgary Transit Operator's certification.
  • At time of interview, applicants must provide an original driver's abstract from all jurisdictions for which they have been a licensed driver in the last 2 years. The abstract must be no older than 60 days.
  • Success in this position requires strong people skills when interacting with customers and staff, with the ability to communicate clearly in the English language, both verbally and in writing. It is important to value diversity, possess a high stress tolerance, have sound judgment, and problem solving skills.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • An enhanced security clearance and vulnerable sector search will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must pass a medical test.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: $26.16 per hour during the 15 day

training program; $30.78 - 33.68 per hour after training.

Days of Work: Days of work will vary,

based on operational requirements.

Hours of work: Accessible Services Operators receive

a pay guarantee of 60 hours bi-weekly.
