Reporting to the Manager of Nursing Practice and Education, the Clinical Educator is a professional role model and resource person for nursing staff and other members of the health care team. The Clinical Educator supports the development of policies and procedures and quality improvement work that promote interprofessional, patient-family-centred care and evidence-based practice. The Clinical Educator plans, develops, facilitates, coordinates and evaluates educational opportunities for nursing staff; including orientation and skills development in new technology, medications, documentation and procedures for a broad range of practice competencies based on patient population. The Clinical Educator provides leadership, clinical coaching/mentoring, and educational activities to enhance knowledge transfer and staff development at both a corporate and a department level. The Clinical Educator will work in collaboration with the Director/Manager of Medicine and Oncology.
Skills/Abilities/Qualifications
Required
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or BScN with relevant medicine/oncology experience
- Current Registration as an RN from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Proficiency and knowledge with Oracle Cerner documentation
- Current certification in Oncology administration (Desouza or ONS)
- Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Specialty Certification in Oncology/Med/Surg
- A minimum of five (5) years recent clinical related experience in Med/Surg or Oncology
- A minimum of two (2) years relevant experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching, competency assessment, program development, facilitation, knowledge of the principles of adult learning and evaluation skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing science theory and CNO standards for Nursing Practice
- Central Venous Access knowledge and skill proficiency
- Ability to evaluate relevant research and synthesize information to identify and implement best practices
- Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and learner populations with effective facilitation and presentation skills, flexible to teach in different learning environments using traditional and computer-based learning
- Demonstrated effective decision making, problem solving, change management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated computer proficiency in word-processing, computer presentation skills and related technology
- Demonstrated integrity, initiative and commitment to continuing professional development and education
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
- Adherence to Brightshores ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and ‘LEAD’ Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others) and a commitment to a safe workplace free of violence and harassment
