About the role
Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board – Social Work Services 1.0 FTE System Assignment -Permanent Mental Health And Addiction Strategy Implementation Team Student and Caregiver Engagement Reporting to the Managers of Social Work Services: This position will:
- Support the Manager of Social Work Services: School Based Support, the Manager of Social Work Services: Well-Being and Mental Health Lead, and HWDSB leadership in the implementation of the HWDSB M ental H ealth and Addiction S trategy as it relates to student and caregiver engagement , including the identification of goals, implementation steps and time frames as well as outcome measurement and data collection.
- Work within the Mental Health and Addiction Strategy Implementation Team, collaborating with other members, System Social Worker Indigenous Communities , System Social Worker for Two Spirit and LGBTQIA+ , System Social Worker for Anti-Black Racism , System Social Worker for Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppressive Practice and System Social Worker for Staff Engagement .
- Work within the larger Social Work Services, to ensure student and caregiver voice is embedded in services, practices and init iatives undertaken as part of the department planning and evaluation process.
- Through consensus building, develop and implement culturally responsive and bias-free engagement strategies to improve student and caregiver partnerships and amplify their voice to improv e mental health outcomes for every student.
- Co-create and s upport structures and processes that enable ethical consultation and collaboration with students, caregivers, and community, intentionally seeking out voice from people and communities who are currently and historically underserved by the education system.
- Ensure that all initiatives adhere to an approach rooted in decolonization, intersectionality and anti-oppressive/anti-racist practice that recognizes historical and current inequities and benefits all members of the school community.
- Ensure effective communication processes are in place to provide transparent and timely info rmation about pathways to care within HWDSB and its schools to students, familie s, a nd community members.
- Ensure that the actions and initiatives within the Mental Health and Addiction Strategy is done to benefit students, families , honour self-determination , is acces sible through universal design to ensure that all members of the community can participate and are valued.
Qualifications
- Master of Social Work and registration in the Ontario College of Social Work and Social Service Workers ;
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team, ensuring safer, collaborative and effective working relationships that honour the voice and views of all team members;
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practice approaches to service delivery, policy and public education rooted in intersectional-feminist frameworks, anti-racist/anti-oppressive/anti-colonial practice and victim-centered approaches to support age-appropriate mental health and wellbeing;
- Demonstrated experience in engaging child and youth voice and promoting youth leadership in mental health and promotion;
- Demonstrated experience in engaging caregivers and community to promote culturally appropriate and accessible mental health support ;
- Demonstrated knowledge of identity affirming and evidence- informed practices in child and youth mental health promotion and intervention ;
- Demonstrated experience with the implementation of mental health programs and strategies that meet the diverse needs of all students ;
- Demonstrated experience in developing successful collaborations both within the Board as well as with the wider community ;
- Demonstrated experience with collection and transference of knowledge with compassion, dignity and trustworthiness ;
- Strong diplomacy skills demonstrated empathy and willingness to walk alongside various stakeholders in differing stages of learning and growth.
- Effective communication and presentation skills, including public speaking and small and large group facilitation.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to write a policy, procedural manual and/or guidelines, in accordance with professional standards.
