Intermediate Estimator & Proposal Coordinator

The Role:

The Estimator & Proposal Coordinator plays a key role in the creation and delivery of estimates and project proposals to obtain new business opportunities. The ideal candidate is thorough, analytical, and a competent writer, with a strong technical background. This is an intermediate role, with at least 4 years of directly relevant Engineering or Energy Sector experience required.

It is imperative that the coordinator is professional, well-organized, and reliable, with a high degree of discretion when dealing with confidential business matters. With a tenacious, innovative, and results-driven nature, they will work to fulfill the Catch Engineering Vision: “To be the most sought-after engineering firm in the world.”

Areas of Accountability:

The Estimator & Proposal Coordinator will be responsible for:

1. Estimate Development

  • Preparing multi-discipline estimates, including but not limited to, electrical, automation, instrumentation and controls, mechanical, and process engineering.
  • Developing cost estimates in consultation with technical staff, using Catch forms and procedures, ensuring that all labour, equipment, and material costs are accurate and current.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors on scopes of work and incorporate their estimates into bids.

2. Proposal Coordination

  • Track and manage active proposal backlog in our CRM system.
  • Updating CRM with proposal details and status changes to improve data collection on win/loss metrics.
  • Evaluating proposal specifications and scope.
  • Communicating with Project Managers, Engineers, and other technical staff to clarify, understand and validate the project scope, risks, deliverables, assumptions, exceptions and exclusions.
  • Writing proposal documents and supporting materials that are clear, concise, and in compliance with client specifications.
  • Organizing meetings and maintaining documentation of said meetings.
  • Respond to post-proposal questions and prepare responses.

3. Other Tasks

  • Assist in developing proposal standards and templates.
  • Provide support with other business development and marketing initiatives.
  • Maintain and update the proposal document library.

Qualification Requirements:

Along with an enthusiastic and professional attitude, you must also have:

  • A related post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate
  • 4+ years of experience in technical estimate and proposal development, with thorough knowledge of estimating processes and industry standards.
  • Strong knowledge of the RFP process
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, specifically Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with CRM and MS Project
  • Advanced technical writing skills
  • Proven skills in handling multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and managing competing priorities
  • Ability to foster professional relationships with people from a variety of technical backgrounds and skill sets
