Job description
The Experienced Pastry Chef operates under the direct guidance of a Head Chef and Sous Chef . In this role, you play a vital part in the day-to-day operations of a bakery or pastry kitchen. You work closely with the Head Baker or Head Pastry Chef ,Sous Chef, as well as other team members, to manage daily tasks and schedules.
Beyond crafting pastries, breads, and various other treats like tarts, your responsibilities encompass tasks such as monitoring inventory and supplies, upholding a safe and hygienic work environment, Washing the dishes and cleaning the kitchen, completing routine tasks on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, contributing to the development of recipes and menus, and suggesting alternative baking techniques.
Responsibilities:
Product:
- Ensures the highest quality and maintains consistent product standards.
- Adheres to all standard safety operating procedures as provided during training.
Service:
- Executes pastry and bakery tasks including scaling ingredients, filling and icing, creating various pastries and baked goods, special occasion cakes, tarts, cookies, breads, and more.
- Assists front house operations when needed.
- Facilitates the transfer of products to the front house, refilling showcases and shelves under the guidance of the supervisor or manager.
- Maintains open communication with front house staff to facilitate product preparation and delivery.
- Reports any customer complaints to Pastry Chef.
- Identifies and reports material quality concerns, inventory shortages, and maintains a purchasing list.
- Answers phone calls in a courteous manner, providing store information, directions, and taking customer orders, especially for custom cakes.
- Ensures efficient and friendly service.
Environment:
- Organizes ingredient transfers between delivery location, dry storage, kitchen, Walk-in Fridge/Freezer, and replenishes shelves and ingredient bins as needed.
- Routinely cleans kitchen, dry storage, walk-in freezer, fridge, mixers, ovens, and equipment, as well as washes dishes and equipment after use, disposing of trash according to daily cleaning schedule.
- Frequently moves prepared ingredients and products to/from the walk-in freezer/fridge.
- Assists in weekly stock taking under supervisor guidance.
- Reports potential safety hazards to the head chef/manager/supervisor on duty.
- Reports all employee accidents to the head chef/manager/supervisor on duty.
- Informs the head chef/manager on duty of any operational inconsistencies.
Requirements, Qualifications & Physical Demands:
- Maintains a positive and professional attitude.
- Must be flexible to work overtime and weekends as required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented capabilities.
- Regularly stands, walks, talks, and hears.
- Frequently uses hands for various tasks, handles objects, and reaches with hands and arms.
- Regularly lifts and/or moves items up to 40 pounds.
- Handles food, hot ingredients/products, and operates mixers, ovens, and other kitchen equipment.
- Requires a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pastry Chef.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 30 per week
