The Ministry of Justice is responsible for providing a fair justice system that upholds the law and protects the rights of all individuals in Saskatchewan. The Court Services Branch in Regina is seeking a highly-skilled, self-confident, assertive and disciplined individual to work at the Regina Sheriff's Office.

As the Deputy Sheriff, you will explain legislation, assess and collect fees for services rendered, investigate debtors for assets, seize and sell assets to satisfy debts, serve legal documents in compliance with the Rules of Court, swear Affidavits, enforce court orders such as a Writ of Possession where you will evict person/people from their homes, and act as Jury Custodian.

As Deputy Sheriff, you must maintain a positive professional relationship with solicitors, police forces, government agencies, the judiciary and the public. You will also maintain the peace while enforcing court orders in the field. You will communicate with a variety of resource centres when faced with difficult situations (i.e., suicide, child welfare, crisis intervention, etc.).

To be successful in this competition, you will have developed your knowledge and skills through several years’ experience in a court or legal environment, law enforcement or through consumer credit and collections or have a combination of two years’ education/training in a related field, combined with experience in law enforcement, a court or legal-related environment, or consumer credit and collections. Specifically, you must have knowledge of the justice system as it applies to the various levels of court and knowledge of court protocol and processes. You must also have excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving solving and analytical skills.

The environment in which you will work has the potential to become hostile and dangerous; therefore, you must be able to physically restrain and apply restraint measures, ensuring the safety and security of the workplace. You must have a certificate in Standard First Aid CPR and must possess a valid driver's license, as you will be required to travel in adverse weather, with the possibility of staying overnight. You will also be required to assist other judicial centres with juries, enforcement and seizures and any other duties as assigned by the Sheriff. In addition, you will be required to carry items in excess of 15 kg; climb ladders and equipment; and work in confined spaces, in extreme temperatures and in an extreme range of sanitary conditions.

You will be required to obtain a certificate in both a Defensive Tactics Course and Oleo Capsicum Spray Course (OC) within the probationary period. As the successful candidate, you must demonstrate good character in order to maintain the integrity of the justice system and the people it serves and ensure confidentiality within and outside the place of work.
