Bailey has an exciting career opportunity for a Tool and Die Lead Hand based in Concord to join our team. This is a great chance to join a Top Employer and contribute to our growth and success.

The Tool and Die Lead Hand will be responsible for overseeing skilled workers tasked with construction, maintaining, modifying, and calibrating machine tools, dies, prototypes, jigs and fixtures. They will supervise the set-up and operation of various manual lathes, milling machines and manual or automatic grinders. The incumbent must have knowledge and experience with tool and die, both progressive and automatic transfer

Schedule: day shift – 7:00am-3:30pm

The responsibilities and accountabilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

Operational:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications of tools, dies, prototypes or models
  • Prepare templates and sketches, and determine work processes
  • Develop and design new tools and dies using computer-aided design software (AutoCAD)
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances and set up machine tools
  • Assist with set-ups and programming equipment as required
  • Fit and assemble or disassemble parts using hand tools
  • Test completed tools, dies, jigs or fixtures for proper operation
  • Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour, conformity, and defects
  • Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications
  • Participate in tool design reviews, engineering change reviews when required
  • Ensure that tools are running smoothly by delegating tooling assignments to staff
  • Manage and support tooling key objectives with cost/expense planning, execution, monitoring and verification to meet department targets
  • Prepare updates for daily scheduled meetings

Human Resources:

  • Work alongside the Corporate Operations Manager and Corporate Maintenance Manager to develop an internal structure within the Tool and Die department
  • Review all work performed by Machinists/Tool and Die associates for completion, accuracy and quality and identify their performance requirements and company training needs
  • Promote teamwork within the department; develop, coach, mentor, and motivate associates
  • Manage time and attendance corrections, approve vacation time and overtime hours
  • Participate in selection process, performance appraisals and training for associates
  • Assist in developing succession plan for replacement of key associates

Health and Safety:

  • Maintain working knowledge of all Health & Safety policies
  • Correct and communicate on any unsafe acts/conditions to management
  • Support and promote all aspects of the corporate Health & Safety program
  • Perform regular workplace inspections, both scheduled and unscheduled
  • Monitor accident frequency and history and analyse injury data
  • Report all accidents/incidents promptly, conduct investigations & act on recommendations

Other:

  • Maintain a high standard of professional knowledge, ethics and practices when dealing with customers, suppliers, peers, subordinates, supervisors and other key stakeholders of the company

  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner that reflects integrity and respect towards customers, suppliers, peers, subordinates, supervisors and other key stakeholders of the company

  • Other responsibilities and accountabilities assigned by the Corporate Operations Manager and Corporate Maintenance Manager

Requirements

  • 10 years experience in an industry-related manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in CNC/manual lathes, milling machines and manual/automatic grinders
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Adobe
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Working Conditions

    • Able to stand for prolonged periods od time

    • Able to lift materials up to 50 pounds

    • Plant environment including exposure to heavy equipment, fumes, and dusts; PPE required

    • Overtime as required

    • Travel to other branches may be required
