About the Role:
We are seeking an Analyst to join our Investment Risk & Analytics team, which is focused on measuring and analyzing investment risk at the total plan level. Reporting to the Manager, you will deliver value-add analytics and risk reporting to support the investment decision making process. This is a high-impact role on a small team. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, critical thinker, and excellent problem solver. The successful incumbent will integrate technology, an understanding of financial markets, and quantitative techniques to deliver value-add analysis.
As the Newest Member of our Team, You’ll:
- Utilize programming skills to develop and maintain tools for investment risk analysis (e.g., stress testing, active risk, value at risk, liquidity risk).
- Manage and validate holdings and market data used in analytical models, including tracking new investment mandates and backfilling gaps.
- Collaborate with the Finance and Investments teams to ensure data accuracy.
- Streamline/automate data management workflows and reporting processes where possible.
- Conduct research to improve and expand analytical capabilities.
- Extract and communicate meaningful insights from data.
- Monitor financial market developments and apply them to risk analysis.
- Support exploratory or cross-functional projects that align with organizational goals.
To Succeed, You Bring:
- Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in a financial risk modelling or investment management-related function at an asset owner (e.g. pension fund, endowment) or other financial institution.
- A post-secondary education from an accredited institution in finance, math, statistics, computer science, engineering, economics or other related disciplines.
- Hands-on experience with a high-level programming language, preferably Python.
- Pursuing the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), FRM (Financial Risk Management), or other related designations is considered a strong asset.
- Strong foundational understanding of different financial instruments (including derivatives), asset classes, and investment strategies.
- Experience with investment risk measurement concepts (VaR, SaR, active risk, shortfall risk) and applied quantitative techniques (regression, simulation, optimization).
- High attention to detail and rigorous problem-solving; ability to think big picture and understand investment decision-making beyond just numbers.
- Strong written and verbal communication for clear, concise explanations; collaborative team player; thrives in performance-driven environments with initiative, independent thinking, and a strong work ethic.
