Are you looking to put your writing and fundraising skills to work in service of an organization that values community, equity, and practical impact? If so, we want to hear from you!

Small Housing is seeking a full-time Fund Development Specialist to help expand our funding base and grow the impact of our programs, policy work, and community partnerships. Reporting to the Executive Leads, the successful candidate will lead public and philanthropic grant writing, support procurement submissions, and help develop and execute a broader fund development strategy.

This is a new, permanent position for a motivated and collaborative fundraising professional with strong writing skills, project coordination experience, and a keen understanding of both the non-profit and government funding landscape.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Writing & Coordination

  • Research and identify prospective grants from foundations, government bodies, and corporate funders.
  • Develop compelling proposals and letters of intent that clearly align with funder priorities.
  • Coordinate application timelines and ensure timely submission of all grant materials.
  • Maintain a grant calendar, funder database, and track reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather input, financial data, and impact stories

Public Procurement & Bidding

  • Monitor procurement opportunities and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) from municipalities, as well as provincial and federal entities.
  • Prepare competitive bids and coordinate internal documentation and timelines.
  • Support the development of service contracts and government-funded project proposals.

Fund Development Strategy & Donor Engagement

  • Contribute to a comprehensive funding strategy that includes grants, service-based revenue, and donations.
  • Support relationship-building with funders and interest holders through proposals, reports, and impact storytelling.
  • Assist in identifying new strategic partnerships, sponsorships, and revenue streams.

Desired Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written communication, with the ability to translate ideas into clear, persuasive narratives.
  • Experience coordinating and submitting grant applications, preferably in a non-profit or government context.
  • Familiarity with government procurement processes and project-based budgeting.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proactive and collaborative, comfortable working in a small, remote team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, reconciliation, and inclusive community development.
  • Comfort with cloud-based tools such as Microsoft, Airtable, or CRM platforms.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A university degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in grant writing, public sector proposal coordination, or fund development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead successful grant or procurement submissions.
  • Experience engaging with equity-deserving communities and funders.
  • Knowledge of BC’s housing, planning, or community development ecosystem is an asset.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities or cultural safety training is a strong asset. New employees commit to completing employer-paid Indigenous cultural safety training within 6 months of hiring.

What We Offer

  • A permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours/week).
  • Annual salary range: $70,000 – $90,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Extended health and dental benefits (employer-paid).
  • A flexible and remote-first work environment, with occasional travel or in-person meetings.
  • The opportunity to shape and grow a funding portfolio that supports systemic housing change in BC and Canada.
