Cambridge Shelter Corporation is seeking an experienced cook to join the kitchen team.

The position is allows for autonomy and the ability to be creative, with a changing menu. The employee will work in a steady paced environment with an emphasis on work-life balance. The employee will have access to great benefits, EAP, a set schedule, and vacation accrual.
Position Description
This position will be responsible for all facets of operating the kitchen. CSC is a person-centred agency dedicated to assisting individuals in moving forward with their lives.
We are currently hiring a full-time position (32-40 hours) with a Tuesday- Saturday schedule. Hours are 6am-2pm or 11am-7pm. Flexible to meet the needs of the candidate.

Duties of the position will include the following:
- Day to day operation of a kitchen preparing meals daily
- Participate in ensuring that all supplies needed for running the kitchen are in place
- Potentially accept donations and make changes to the meal plan on the fly
- Work cooperatively with other kitchen staff on menus that are in line with Canada's Food Guide
- Coordinate food preparation, and ensure that foods requiring longer cooking times are prepared and ready for the kitchen volunteers at 4:00 p.m.
- Assist with maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the kitchen area, cooler, freezer, and dry storage following the guidelines of Waterloo Region Public Health
- Participate in health inspections of the kitchen by the Public Health Inspector
- Have completed a Safe Food Handling course, current Standard First Aid/CPR certificate, current Naloxone training, or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to repeatedly lift heavy items throughout each shift
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team situation
- Work cooperatively with volunteers and with the Volunteer Coordinator
Health and Safety
The position will comply with all health and safety regulations, policies and procedures including:
- Wear appropriate and safe attire, including steel-toe non-slip shoes.
- Operating any equipment according to its regulations and only if the equipment is in good working order
- Ensuring that all knives, slicers and other sharp equipment are used properly
- Ensuring that equipment used regularly is in good working order
- Reporting to the Kitchen Manager the existence of any hazard or any contravention of policy
- Attend any health and safety training that is required
- Participate in an annual review of health and safety policies and procedures

Cambridge Shelter Corporation grew out of the Out of the Cold program that operated out of seven churches during the winter months from 1998 to 2005. We now provide accommodation, meals, and ongoing programming and life skills support, all thanks to the helping hands of this amazing community!
Our mission is to provide safe shelter, and to offer programs and services in support of the hopes and needs of people dealing with life issues.
