About the role

CMHA Kelowna is hiring a part time Kitchen Assistant. This position offers 22.5 hours a week with a work schedule of Tuesday - Thursday 7:30am – 3:30pm.

WHO IS A KITCHEN ASSISTANT?

The Kitchen Assistant supports the Meals Matter Program by performing kitchen cleaning duties and assisting the cooks in food preparation for the CMHA Kelowna Supportive Housing Programs.

WHAT DOES A KITCHEN ASSISTANT DO?

  • Wash dishes and kitchen equipment
  • Ensure the kitchen is clean, sanitized and organized, adhering to health and safety standards
  • Help with food prep under the direct supervision of cooks
  • Properly store ingredients as directed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

YOUR STRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to be regularly exposed to individuals who are struggling with and/or recovering from trauma, drug/alcohol use, homelessness, mental health challenges and/or mental illness
  • Criminal Record Check clearance in the Vulnerable Sector is required
  • Experience working in a kitchen setting considered an asset
  • Food Safe Certification is considered an asset
  • Communication skills to effectively interact with team members
  • Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling to meet kitchen needs
  • Ability to maintain consistent professional boundaries
  • Familiarity with health and safety standards in food service considered an asset
