Four-day work week
Supporting in-studio, remote within Canada, and hybrid work arrangements as permanent options

About the role

Blackbird Interactive is a creative-fueled, future-driven, independent game studio where the best talent in the industry can find long-term careers to help grow their abilities while working on a wide range of projects, which encompass world-class IPs as well as our own creations across multiple genres.

In 2022, we announced that our studio is implementing a four-day work week as well as supporting in-studio, remote within Canada, and hybrid work arrangements as permanent options to our employees.

Blackbird Interactive would like to connect with associate‑level engineers who love turning ideas into moment‑to‑moment fun. You’ll prototype, implement and refine a wide variety of Unreal Engine 5 gameplay systems: movement, combat, AI, progression—while learning directly from senior programmers and designers.

Interested in connecting? Please submit an application, letting us know when you’re next available. From there, if your profile is a good match, we will be in touch with more information.

Your experience should include:

  • 0–2 years of professional, co‑op, indie or academic experience in C++ with Unreal Engine 4/5
  • Rapid prototyping and willingness to scrap code in pursuit of better gameplay
  • Knowledge of (or want to learn) Git, Perforce or similar version‑control tools
  • A small project—game‑jam, class assignment or personal demo—that showcases your gameplay instincts
