Planiform, a leader in automated conveyor systems, is looking for a full-time Senior Robotic Engineer to join our Terrebonne, QC team!
Planiform is a leading provider of automated and robotic conveyor systems, serving distribution centers and retail environments for over 50 years. Our innovative solutions such as the HIVE robotic platform, the CPM storage system, and a new generation of AI-powered garment handling technologies are transforming how goods are moved, stored, and retrieved around the world.
We are currently refining a mobile robotic system equipped with an arm and specialized tooling designed to pick and handle garments. The platform is already functional and now we are focused on optimizing embedded controls, integrating AI vision, and hardening the system for field deployment.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Robotic Engineer to lead the continued development and industrialization of this next-generation system. You will work across embedded systems, AI-driven perception, and mechanical integration to improve system performance, reliability, and intelligence.
This role is ideal for a hands-on, technically versatile engineer who thrives on solving real-world robotics challenges and delivering production-ready solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and support on-site IT systems, including end-user workstations, printers, and peripherals
- Improve and optimize a functional mobile robotic system with an integrated arm and custom end-effector
- Lead embedded controls, sensor integration, and real-time motor driver communication
- Integrate and tune Jetson-based AI vision for garment recognition and robotic picking
- Troubleshoot and enhance mechatronic performance (speed, repeatability, robustness)
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and AI teams on full-stack delivery
- Document calibration methods, integration guides, and system architecture
- Support on-site testing, commissioning, and refinement at customer facilities
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to R&D roadmap evolution
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in robotic system development (mobile platforms or manipulators)
- Strong practical knowledge of Embedded microcontrollers
- Strong practical knowledge of Motor control (servo, BLDC, stepper) and real-time IO interfacing
- Strong practical knowledge of Robotic arms, grippers, and tooling integration
- Practical knowledge of ROS or ROS2 middleware and Linux environments
- Practical knowledge of AI vision pipelines using Jetson platforms
- Practical knowledge of PLC programming and interfacing robotic subsystems with industrial control platforms
- Strong debugging, integration, and cross-functional problem-solving skills
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of French (spoken and/or written) is an asset
- Familiarity with collaborative arms or custom robotic arm design
- Understanding of robotic perception, motion planning, or reinforcement learning basics
- Experience with design for manufacturing and system scaling
- Experience with Beckhoff automation systems, including TwinCAT and EtherCAT integration
